Post-CNY update

[Parking counter] – V’s Flickr, 19th Feb ‘07

So the CNY holidays have ended for everyone over in SG (or so I should imagine, since it’s already bloody Friday!), and it’s never begun for us over here in the first place. How’s your angpao collection been? I’d imagine that it’s a hell lot better than mine anyways.

Here comes one of my favourite recent rants: my own grandmother forgot about giving me an angpao, citing my absence as a reason. Noooooooooooo. Anyway she didn’t give much (so the brother says) so yeah screw it : (

Anyway, I did manage to get a few of them red packets over here : ) Not too bad, it paid for the fees I spent on today’s day trip at least heh heh.

Here’s how my Chinese New Year was spent:

Lunch at a Thai cafe we’ve been frequently. It’s called Thai Culinary, and run by native Thai people. Affordable food (curry and rice for six bucks from 3 – 5 p.m. woot) and authentic taste to boot. So far this is my first choice in the city when dining out. Other than fast food that is.

Beef fried rice and tom yum goong. Not the tongue scorching type that you get from Bangkok, but at least the taste is there.

Walking around Queen Victoria Market. It’s a big wholesale open air market that sells veggies, fruits and stuff like that. Not to mention souvenirs, clothes and hmm, well quite a lot of odds and ends. A small sized Chatuchak market?

There’s another section with shops that sell proper food, meats and other seasonings blah blah. Here’s how it looks like:

A nice dinner at the relative’s place.

Homecooked chicken rice, with char siew, chicken and roasted duck. The uncle is seriously a good cook :D

New Year decorations: pretty lilies in a vase.

And that’s all heh. I had to go orientation for the rest of the CNY, but that’ll be in another post. Laters.
