What’s it, you ask? ‘The Manchurian Candidate’‘ of course =)

It’s actually a remake of a 1962 movie of the same name, produced by Jonathon Demme (director of the turn-your-guts-upside-down film ‘Silence of the Lambs’) and a cast including great actors like Denzel Washington, Meryl Streep and Liev Schreiber.

I did some reading up a while ago, and it seems that the plot differs slightly from the ‘62 film in terms of the antagonist. Nevertheless, the storyline is still strongly enthralling and manages to keep you breathlessly wondering what’ll happen in the next scene.

The background music is good, always managing to bring a climax of suspense wherever needed, and the stark series of images from the dreams of Major Ben Marco (Denzel Washington) brings about a vivid sense of torture/inflicted horrors. The cinematography manages to remind me of ‘Silence of the Lambs’ somehow; don’t ask me why, it’s just a feeling I got while watching it the show.

In short, it’s definitely one of the best films I’ve watched for the entire year, and will highly recommend it for anyone who doesn’t have a queasy stomach.

Here’s something I read from the HardwareZone forums last night, grins.

An explorer in the deepest Amazon suddenly finds himself surrounded by a bloodthirsty group of cannibals.

Upon surveying his situation, he mutters quietly to himself. “I’m screwed.”

A sudden ray of light shines from above and a voice booms out. “No you’re NOT screwed. Pick up that stone in front of you and kill the chief.” So the explorer picks up the stone and proceeds to bash in the head of the surprised chief. After finishing the dirty deed, he’s breathing heavily while standing above the lifeless body. Surrounding him are the hundred or so cannibals, with various expressions of shock on their faces, weapons at the ready.

The voice booms out again. “Okay……. NOW you’re screwed!”
