yawnsie.
i’m back home at last heh.
met jie after work at bugis, having dinner and yakking away ;) window shopping at seiyu, looking thru assorted costume jewellery la.. watches la.. shoes la.. and i was rushing for time so i sortof bugged her at that point :X sorry jie. but like i said, it’s been quite awhile since i last met her outside heheh, enjoyed her company and sharing words. i was remarking when i first met her she was the one with braces, and now..
;( sad. for me la! 2.5 yrs to go mutter mutter.
her disapproving look and the comments that i looked like a malaysian ah beng with my hair or that i was going to turn into a hairy lion was not appreciated ;p bleh to u jie haha, it’ll take more than you to make me cut my hair short!
seeing her sign off as ReL here made my mind zip back about how *that* particular nickname came about ;) back when she started IRCing, her usual nickname was to choose some female christian name that started with A; as time passed she settled down for aurelie, which some other guy shortened to relie, and i truncated to rel :X talk about evolution haha.
and rushed down to grandlink for… billiard with erwin :X free day for him, cus he had to go down school and choosing his modules bleh.. else he would’ve definitely been bogged down @ work till 11+ at least. we were pretty screwed up during the first game ugh, slow warmup. several cues can pass without even a single ball being potted, disgusting :X after that erwin resumed play as usual, and i got lucky during the third game ;p my eyes/hands/brain decided to cooperate for a change, and i managed to get 16 points in a single cue :)) happy. but of course, i still lost that game, erwin got the black ball in, winning by a whisker ;(
stayin’ over.
as was usual after billiard, erwin would call sharon to see if she was meeting us for supper (routine routine..) and last night we bunked over at erwin’s room instead, watching the starsky & hutch movie he downloaded ;p budget movie theatre? pretty dumb movie imo, lucky i didn’t catch it at the theatre.
we slept at around 4 a.m.. nah. the ‘we’ didn’t include me. erwin was snoozing on the bed with a pillow, sharon had a blanket and a cushion, and i had this nice empty floor and nothing else bah. you can talk about being trained by the army to sleep anywhere, but this was ridiculous ;p not that erwin didn’t offer to share the bed with me, but i wasn’t in the mood to make a buy-1-get-1 combo in his bed *without* a blanket.. his bed was under the aircon’s direct draft :X his alternative suggestion that i bunk down with sharon was even more out of the question -.-
so i ended up rolling my work clothes into a bundle as a pillow.. and tried to sleep. yep, tried to ;p i think i got about 2 hours’ worth in all, amidst the constant wakeups from the decidedly uncomfortable floor.
actually the floor wasn’t that bad, it was the floor *plus* the aircon that made me sleepless -.- retired to the living room sofa and got maybe half an hour’s worth of real sleep, before my dumb hp alarm started blaring in the ear.. damn. wokeup, tried to make myself look human, made smalltalk with erwin’s mother and headed down to office whilst the other two sleepyheads were *still* unconscious ;)
sidenote: sharon *still* hasn’t seen the video of the ktv session last month yet -.- she couldn’t figure out how exactly my thumbdrive was opened, and left it untouched. man.. and i thought the thumbdrive was a wonderful invention.. ease of use, shockproof, and portable. i was trying hard not to laugh too much when i heard her words. perhaps she’s not fated to see that video ;p it’s 2 cd-rs and one thumbdrive so far, with no success.
and the thought of the day is..
“i thought i was supposed to be tired?”
throughout the day, i was musing at my resurrected ability to sleep little and still function like a normal human in amazement; a talent i thought i’d lost since poly days ;p
but of course, functioning like one merely meant i could walk and not bang into walls, *not* cycle into an incoming truck and things like that i.e. i was still awake enough to prevent me from killing myself unconsciously ;p ability to perform normal physical tasks were seriously impaired tho.. haha ;)
- i found myself opening a plastic packet with a connector inside.. and throwing the connector away while holding the torn plastic bag :X
i was suddenly reminded of the dumb army joke about the recruit pulling out the grenade pin and throwing the pin away while holding the live grenade in his hand ;p
- walking to and back countless times to get the stuff i needed one by one.
“ok, now i’ve gotten the pliers and we can straighten that part and now.. fuck. where’s my hammer?”
*staggers off and retrieves hammer*
“alrite, let’s carry on and.. where’s my screwdriver?” and so on ;)
- staring mindlessly while brain struggled ponderously to figure out what the heck i was supposed to do next. time crawls by. brain continues to lag.
nevertheless, i managed to pull through and finish my tasks for the day ;p after work i had to head back to office alone and finish up my dumb project documentation.. ugh. i hate staying in office alone; damn fuckin’ creepy :X but so long as i reined my imagination in and concentrated on work i was fine.. for about 5 minutes. then i had to repeatedly slam the brakes on my wandering mind again. geez.
i was merely suffering from lagged reaction time from my body and not fatigue all the way, until i stepped out from the comic shop in the evening (leisure activity heh) and my legs began to protest by wavering slightly.. saying something like “this is a gentle reminder.. please get me home and let me rest will you!”
so here i am ;p supposedly resting. bball tomorrow!
the elder gods.
my long overdue review about this book has finally arrived..;p i took about a week to finish it. surprisingly lengthy? nah, i took my time ;p read it during transit time @ work and kept falling asleep hahaha.
well, it’s not really as interesting as the belgariad, but eddings is a really good writer, as he fleshes out each of his stories with different races, different military strategies, fighting styles while retaining the fantasy/gods theme and the distinct personality that shows you straight in the face.. ‘this is an eddings work!’ the abrupt way of speaking and the wry sense of humor that the characters have is ever present in his books ;)
pirates and legionnaires are featured as the standard fighting troops this time round, with the elder gods and younger gods reborn as humans?
it’s too early to tell now, but it might actually be an interesting tale in the later books ;p i’ll give it a 3 out of 5 for now.
